Problems with the Phones
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, since shortly after the beginning of the term we have been experiencing problems with our phone system. Internal phones haven’t worked, we’ve had no answer phone service, and have had only one line into the school.
I realise this has caused difficulties at times when it has come to parents contacting us. Thank you for your patience.
We have been assured that our phone network will be restored to its former glory in the very near future, as soon as the “vital part” arrives from Australia. (I’m guessing this must be coming by raft).

School Road Patrol Crossing/Car Parking
A reminder that everyone must stand behind the line until the children holding the signs have checked that the road is safe and have called "Cross Now". Please do not attempt to cross the road at any time when the children have their arms up. This either means they have opened the signs and are checking the way is safe or they are about to close the signs. The road patrol is there for your safety, and all are expected to use the official crossing.
A reminder that there is no car parking on any yellow lines.

Meet the Teacher Afternoons
A reminder that this week you have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher informally in the class rooms, on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, from 3:30pm until 5pm.
Please note that these are not parent interviews as such, and formal assessment results will not be available. This is just an opportunity for you to see your child’s learning environment and chat with the teacher.
If you have more detailed concerns about your child, please make an appointment to speak confidentially with the teacher at a later date, or wait until our formal parent interviews, coming up on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th March.

Swimming Pool
Our swimming programme starts tomorrow, and as swimming is part of our curriculum all children need to bring their togs. Teachers will let the children know which days their class swimming sessions are on. It is a school expectation that, unless there is a genuine reason for not taking part, all children will participate in swimming. A note is required if your child is not swimming.
This year the BOT is employing an outside professional swimming coach to assist teachers with swimming lessons.

Our School Cross Country Day is set down for Tuesday 1st September, and all classes are training, in readiness for the big day.
Cross Country running is part of our curriculum, and an integral part of our fitness programme, and as such all children are expected to take part unless they have a note from their parents excusing them.
Given the fact that the training runs are not too onerous, we ask parents to assist us in encouraging your children to take part.

School Donations
As mentioned in previous newsletters, the Board of Trustees has set our school donation at $180 per child for the year. This is reduced to $150 if paid before the end of the first term. Only two weeks to go if you would like your discount!
Donations may be paid by instalment if you wish, or by automatic deductions (speak to Tania about this). We have Eftpos and credit card facilities at school for those who wish to pay in this manner.
As the money raised from donations is spent for the benefit of all children, we do encourage all parents to contribute.
Activity Fee
A reminder that some families still need to pay for the Zoo trip $14.00 and for Bringwonder (book week 6th-9th April )
$3.00 to cover the cost of the story teller. |

Parent Interviews
Parent interviews are being held this week on Wednesday (3.20pm-5.00pm) and Thursday (3.20pm-8.00pm).
On both days, school will finish at 3.00pm as usual.
We need to keep to the ten minute time limit please, as if we get behind in one room it has repercussions for other classrooms and parents. If you feel there is more to discuss at the end of the interview, please make another appointment time to meet with your child’s teacher.
We look forward to meeting with you, and hope you will find the parent conferences helpful. |

ERO are especially impressed by the quality of teaching and learning going on at all levels in our school. Great news! Way to go Botany Downs |

Traffic Safety
We are having some real issues around the drop off zone in the morning, which we need your assistance with please.
It is really important for us to keep things moving as expeditiously as we can in this zone. We realise that it is made a little more awkward because of the pedestrian crossing that runs through the zone, as parents are stopping to look for pedestrians approaching from their right (THANKYOU for this), contributing to a backlog build-up behind. There is no easy solution for this. |

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, banking for children right here at school begins this Thursday morning, from 8.30am until 8.55am.
If you would like your child to open a bank account and start the saving habit, they need to come to the library from 8.30am on Thursday. Bank staff will be on hand to assist them. Parents are very welcome to accompany their children, especially the parents of younger pupils. |
