Reporting to Parents
These are held twice a year in Term 1 and at the end of Term 2. They are 10 minutes long.
Students are encouraged to come along to these conferences and hear about their learning progress. This is a good time for parents to ask any questions regarding their child’s learning. Parents are welcome to make appointments with the class teacher at other times if the need arises.
Botany Downs School provides parents with a report half way through the year and again at the end of the year. They inform parents of their child’s learning in a clear and meaningful way. They also hold important information regarding National Curriculum levels.
We use “SOLO Taxonomy” in our classrooms. SOLO stands for Structured Overview of Learning Outcomes, and, in simple terms, is a process designed to help students achieve deeper thinking. The children are being encouraged through the five stages or levels of Solo – to state where they are at with their thinking, and what to do next to achieve a more advanced level of thinking.
We’ve introduced “Solo” as a way in which we can encourage children to organise their thoughts independently, and take responsibility for their learning by working towards the top level of ordering and creating new ideas.
