Term 2 Week 9 2021
Kia ora koutou,
Week 10 is going to be a particularly busy and exciting week as it is Book Week culminating in our Character Book Week Parade. Thank you to our amazing teachers led by Ms Sharmila Raj and Mrs Hatley-Owen for organising such an exciting book week during week 10. Thank you also to those parents who have offered to assist with the Scholastic Book Fair sales, and to all of you who are already preparing costumes for the book character parade.
We are looking forward to seeing you at our Parent Interviews on Wednesday and Thursday. Teachers will be focusing on student progress so far this year, which may include class work, assessments and social skills. Students’ books will be available for you to look through to see examples of your child’s learning. Reports will be coming home on Tuesday 6 July.
Last week we had our first Pōwhiri at BDS and it was an incredibly special occasion. This would not have been possible without Michelle Takaiti whose expertise and enthusiasm enabled this to be organised. With the support of Rochelle Carr on the guitar and supporting the kapa haka practices, all our teachers and tamariki were able to welcome our new whanau, tamariki and teachers to BDS. It was so wonderful to see so many of our new BDS whanau attending and staying for morning tea. A personal thank you to the Board Of Trustees and staff who presented me with an absolutely beautiful Pounamu necklace.
Next term, every year group level will be visiting the Museum. Please look out for your child’s notice in their school bag as it came home last week and will explain our Inquiry Focus for Term 3.
Please check the lost property before the end of the term as we have many items that need to be collected, particularly our green fleece jackets.
Our three canopies will continue to be installed over the holidays and two of our classrooms will also be having work completed on them. This will be a busy holiday time at BDS.
We all wish you a relaxing and enjoyable school holiday.
