Week 11, Term 2 2026
Kia ora koutou Parents and BDS Whānau,
I am absolutely thrilled to be back with you all for the final week of the term after being away on a ten-week sabbatical. I have returned this week feeling completely refreshed, energised, and incredibly grateful for the opportunity.
While I was away, I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Education and principal colleagues on some deep professional learning. It was an invaluable experience, and I have been focusing on the latest educational strategies to bring fresh ideas back to our school. I am so excited to put this new knowledge into action to support your children’s growth as we head into the second half of the year.
A Massive Thank You to Our Team
An absence of ten weeks is no small thing, and it could not have happened without our incredible team. I want to extend a massive thank you to:
Mr Mark Insley: Thank you for doing an absolutely amazing job as Acting Principal in my absence. Your leadership kept our school moving forward seamlessly.
Mrs Rachel Ryan & the Leadership Team: Thank you for your unwavering support of Mark and for guiding our school so capably.
Our Wonderful Staff: Thank you all for being so dedicated and professional. Our staff always go above and beyond, and I deeply acknowledge the hard work and dedication they put into everything they do.
The School Board & Community: Thank you to the Board for granting me this sabbatical, and to our entire community for your support, which allows opportunities like this to happen.
Since returning on Monday, catching up with people around the school has been absolutely wonderful. I am very much looking forward to seeing many more of you at our Matariki morning celebration this Friday. It will be a beautiful way to wrap up the term together.
I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the recent Whānau Learning Conversations and for supporting our staff as they navigate our new assessment and reporting systems. Many, many hours of hard work and mahi have gone into developing these behind the scenes, and your partnership makes all the difference.
Looking ahead, Term 3 is already filling up with so many exciting events. Have a wonderful, safe, and restful upcoming school holiday, and I look forward to connecting with more of you when we return for an exciting Term 3.
