Arts & Culture

 

At Botany Downs School we strive to provide opportunities for our tamariki of all ages to respond creatively and imaginatively to tasks across a range of disciplines within The Arts Curriculum as an area of learning.

We recognise that each and every one of our students is unique and thus we encourage them to bring their own unique experiences and skills to their learning throughout the year. Through movement, sound, and image, the arts transform our students’ creative ideas into amazing expressive works that communicate layered meanings. 

We regularly take part in the annual HPPA Dance Festival, and our choir and orchestra perform throughout the year. Our arts and cultural evenings are eagerly looked forwad to events in our school calendar. 

Visual art pieces made by our students are displayed around the school including collaborations created with art students from our local college.

 

Kapa Haka

We are proud to have both a junior and senior Kapa Haka group, made up of enthusiastic students from Years 1-6. Supported by teachers, they learn waiata and movements that they proudly display at our School Pōwhiri, cultural evenings and various other school events throughout the year.
