Cultural

Kapa Haka Rōpū at Botany Downs Primary

Kapa Haka is a valued part of life at our primary school, providing students with the opportunity to engage in te ao Māori through performance, language and tikanga. Our Kapa Haka rōpū brings together students from across the school to learn waiata (songs) and haka, while building a strong sense of pride and belonging.

Through regular practises, students develop confidence, teamwork and respect, while deepening their understanding of tikanga Māori and te reo Māori. Supported and guided by Mrs Takaiti, our tamariki are encouraged to grow in both skill and confidence as they prepare for performances and school events.

We are proud of our Kapa Haka rōpū.

Pasifika Au Siva

Pasifika Au Siva (Pasifika Dance Group) welcomes all tamariki from Years 4 – 6 who wish to celebrate their own Pacific heritage or learn about Pacific cultures. Our tamariki practise during lunchtimes and perform for Pacific Language Weeks, developing pride, confidence and cultural leadership as they become the experts and role models within the school.

Lunchtime Cultural Club

Lunchtime Cultural Club welcomes all tamariki in Years 4 – 6 who are interested in learning about and celebrating cultures from around the world. Our Year 6 student leaders guide each session, with a different cultural focus every week. Our tamariki will learn about language, traditions, and/or cultural practices while enjoying engaging activities created and led by the student leaders.
