LIBRARY NEWS

Library Open Week 3!

We are looking forward to welcoming classes back to the library next week. Visiting the library is an important part of the timetable where children extend their reading skills, grow their love of reading, and learn valuable literacy and information skills. Students are encouraged to borrow books to take home to read and enjoy with their family.

You can help build their reading skills by:

  • reading to your child everyday (even the older ones)
  • being a reader yourself – be seen reading books, newspapers, magazines…
  • asking about the book your child has chosen – why did they choose it, what do they like about it, would they be friends with the main character, can they guess what is going to happen, etc
  • making reading a fun time, not a chore – read with funny voices, create a special reading spot, put aside 5 minutes in the evening to read together
  • reminding them to return their book to the library and choose another
  • taking them to visit the public library
